Job Announcement
The Physics Institute at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso
(PUCV, https://fis.ucv.cl/ ) invites applications for a tenure-track position equivalent to
an assistant professorship to strengthen our Astrophysics group in the areas of
extragalactic astrophysics and observational cosmology.
The candidates must have a PhD degree, postdoctoral experience and a proven track
record in research in astrophysics and/or astronomy. The successful candidate will be
expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physics and astrophysics,
striving to offer a positive learning experience. They should also apply for external
funding to support their research as well as graduate students and postdoctoral
researchers, although some internal funding is available for the latter when necessary.
The successful applicant will have access to the guaranteed 10% of telescope time for
all facilities in Chile, including VLT, Gemini-South, Magellan, CTIO, La Silla, ALMA,
among others, as well as the upcoming Giant Magellan Telescope and E-ELT, among
others; they will also be eligible for membership in several large collaborations
including SDSS-V, LSST, ACT, Simons Observatory, and 4MOST/CHANCES, depending
on their interests.
The position includes a competitive salary plus generous research incentives. We
