Coloquio en el IFIS: “From Quantum Chaos to Black Holes”

Recently, ideas from quantum chaos have begun to play an important role in high-energy physics, especially in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, a duality relating certain theories of gravity in anti-de Sitter space to lower-dimensional quantum field theories without gravity. In this colloquium, I will explain in what sense black holes can be viewed as maximally chaotic systems, and how this perspective helps sharpen our understanding of the AdS/CFT correspondence. I will focus on the physics of out-of-time-order correlators and present a modern perspective on them based on free probability theory.
