En esta ocasión, Pablo Garrido, estudiante de Doctorado, presentará “Image-plane scintillation from event-based intensity reconstruction for ground-layer turbulence characterization”.

Near-ground atmospheric turbulence produces irradiance fluctuations (scintillation) that are concentrated at the high-contrast edges of a scene—precisely where neuromorphic cameras (event-based sensors) are most sensitive. This study explores whether this physical correspondence allows for the retrieval of scintillation information from the event stream to estimate the refractive-index structure parameter, $C_n^2$, without the need for an active transmitter, a co-located scintillometer, or trained regression models. Four field campaigns conducted over horizontal paths of 200–300 m, validated against a sonic anemometer, demonstrate that event-based reconstruction recovers the turbulence level in a global statistical sense, paving the way for low-cost, passive turbulence sensors.
