Privacy Policy

Developer and scope

This policy describes the Granular LAB macOS application, developed by Germán Varas at the Instituto de Física, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile. For privacy questions, contact Germán Varas at [email protected].

The app works offline. It has no advertising, tracking or third-party analytics SDKs, and does not sell personal information. The website, email services and Apple distribution services are separate from the app, as explained below.

Information stored on your Mac

Simulations and their analysis are processed locally. The app stores preferences, such as appearance and display settings, and experiment configurations that you choose to save. Saved configurations can include a name you provide, simulation parameters, dates and the app version.

Local startup diagnostics record limited technical information, such as startup time, app version, operating mode, preset identifiers and resource checks, to help investigate problems. These logs have a size limit and older entries are replaced as the limit is reached. They are not automatically uploaded or attached to support messages.

The app may read system information, such as processor and memory information and elapsed time, to display performance diagnostics and measure simulation execution. This information is processed locally.

Files you import, export or share

Import and export operations access the files or folders you select. Exports can contain simulation results, images, video and reproducibility information, such as parameters, timestamps, app version and random seeds. Some batch or diagnostic outputs can include local file paths, which may reveal a folder or account name.

You choose where to save files and whether to share them. Review their contents before sharing. Files stored in a cloud-synced folder or included in a backup may be transferred by your chosen cloud or backup service; Granular LAB does not provide its own cloud synchronization.

When you contact the developer

If you email the developer, your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send are received through the email service. They are used to respond to your request and investigate the issue you report. Sending diagnostic files is optional.

Support correspondence is retained for as long as needed to answer and follow up on the request, resolve the reported issue and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations. It is not used for advertising or sold. You can use the contact address above to request access, correction or deletion of information you have sent; any retention required by applicable obligations will be explained.

External links, website and Apple services

Website and contact links open your browser or email application. These services process information under their own privacy practices. The main Granular LAB website includes Cloudflare Web Analytics; website hosting may also involve technical connection logs. Those website services do not run inside the Granular LAB app. The standalone privacy page has no analytics scripts.

Apple may process App Store, TestFlight, purchase, crash or diagnostic information according to its policies and your settings. Apple may make some testing or diagnostic information available to the developer through those services. This is separate from the app's local processing and its lack of an automatic reporting service. See Apple's privacy information at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

Your control over local data

You can change preferences in the app, delete saved configurations using its configuration controls, and delete exported files with Finder. Preferences and saved configurations remain on your Mac until changed or removed; diagnostic retention is limited by file size rather than a fixed number of days.

Uninstalling the app may leave support files, exports or backups. You can remove remaining local app data and backups using macOS or your backup service. Contact the developer if you need help locating them. The developer cannot remotely access or delete files that remain only on your Mac.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app or its data practices change. The current public policy is available on the Granular LAB website, and the app includes an offline copy in Help → Privacy Policy. The date above identifies this revision.
