CosmoSur VIII

8th International Conference on Gravity & Cosmology in the Southern Cone

October 6-9, 2026

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and Universidad de Valparaíso will host CosmoSur VIII, the eighth edition of the biennial Cosmology and Gravitation in the Southern Cone meeting.

CosmoSur aims to strengthen collaboration among South American researchers working mainly in cosmology, gravitation, and astronomy. The meeting provides a space where different research groups can present their work, exchange ideas, and develop collaborations. It also promotes the training of students and early-career researchers by facilitating direct interaction with scientists from across Latin America.

A distinctive aspect of CosmoSur is the close interaction between theoretical and observational communities, bringing together astronomers and physicists working on different aspects of cosmology, gravity, and astrophysics. The conference program will consist of invited talks, contributed presentations, and poster sessions.

From Santiago Airport to Viña del Mar or Valparaíso

1. Easiest option

The easiest option is to use Transvip or We-Transfer, or one of the official taxi companies such as Taxi Oficial or Taxi Blue. You can book these services at their official counters after clearing customs. Avoid unofficial drivers who approach you inside the airport.

The approximate cost is CLP $100,000–130,000 (about USD 110–140) for a private car, including tolls. Shared vans are cheaper per person. Always confirm the fare before boarding.

This is the best option if you arrive in the evening or at night, or if you are travelling with a lot of luggage.

2. Most economical option

The most economical option is to travel by bus. This requires two stages and one transfer.

First, take a Centropuerto or TurBus Aeropuerto shuttle from the airport to Pajaritos metro station. The journey takes approximately 30–40 minutes. The intercity bus terminal is located directly next to the metro station.

From Pajaritos, take an intercity bus to Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. Companies include TurBus, Pullman Bus, and Cóndor Bus. Departures are frequent, typically from around 6:15 am to 10:20 pm, and the journey takes approximately 1.5–2 hours.

The total cost is generally below CLP $15,000 (about USD 16). This is the cheapest option, but it takes longer and requires a transfer while carrying your luggage.

Important — from the Viña del Mar or Valparaíso bus terminal to your hotel

If you arrive by bus in Viña del Mar or Valparaíso, we strongly recommend taking an Uber or an official taxi from the bus terminal to your hotel rather than walking. The areas around the bus terminals can feel less safe, particularly after dark.

The ride is generally short and inexpensive, so this is the most convenient option.
